Dr. Danford developed an interest in ophthalmology while in medical school after joining a group of surgeons with the Himalayan Cataract Project in Ethiopia. There he witnessed hundreds of patients be cured of blindness from severe cataracts. This experience solidified his desire to become an eye surgeon. It inspired him to spend an additional year in medical school to receive a master’s degree in translational and clinical research focusing on the genetics of glaucoma.
